The Concrete Arrives

On Friday we prepared for the concrete floor on the upper lever and finished the plumbing on the lower level. And, in the late afternoon, we went to a local school for a visit. Then, some of the team stayed there and entertained the students.

There had been a back hoe on site helping with building roads, and digging a couple of longer trenches. When it came to leave, a truck showed up.

We were wondering how he was going to get the backhoe onto the bed of the truck. We watched in amazement as he put the bucket over the truck, lifted up the backhoe until the treads were on the truck. Then he turned the bucket around to push and stabilize as he drove the backhoe up onto the truck. Incredible. Here is a picture when he was moving up onto the truck bed.

After lunch, we changed clothes and went to the school for a visit. With Aye acting as the translator and participating in the story, Faye used her puppets to entertain the children.

The students were obviously having lots of fun. The guys headed back to the site because the concrete was arriving.

Four trucks of concrete later it was nearly dark and we called it a day, a very long day.

I have been surprised about how few insects we have seen. The mosquitos have not been a major problem. Perhaps the reason is

spiders like this one. It is hard to get a feel for the size of this spider from the picture. And since it was 10 feet up in the air, I couldn't measure it directly. But, I am guessing it was 3 inches in diameter. It was a very large spider.

Our host is Randy Bevis. He has been taking marvelous care of us. Here is a picture of him and a Thai boy that he and his wife are adopting.
