Celebrating with the Thais

This time of year is a festival of some kind--a bit like our Thanksgiving. One of the things they do is launch a paper hot air balloon with fireworks attached. You can see them all over the sky. They are quite cheap, made out out paper and a couple of metal rigid rings. The first thing they do is light it and wait until the air heats up inside. I'll add some short videos later to show the process.

After the air gets hot enough, the balloon gains some buoyancy and will float off. When it is ready, they light some pyrotechnics and let it go.

As it goes up the little fireworks shoot off. They have are quite cheap and we have several more to light and launch later.

After most people went to bed, Randy, Tom B., and I were sitting around talking. We got invited to join our Thai hosts at the lodge to sit with them. While Tom and I didn't understand anything, we had a good time watching them interact together. The lead picture is us sitting around the table after their dinner.
