Edinburgh City

I'm writing this and drinking a cup of Starbucks coffee. There are a dozen or so Starbucks in the city, one within a block of the hotel. It made for a good start to the last two mornings.

After the castle, we decided to take the bus tour of Edinburgh. We had a good ride with an informative guide who mixed the history of Edinburgh with fun facts and opinions about the city and its inhabitants. The picture above is of a memorial to Sir Walter Scott, the famous author. According to our guide, it is the largest memorial to an author in the world. A few pictures from the tour.

A typical city street.

The entrance to the old Royal Palace.

Part of Edinburgh University (I think).

We ended the afternoon with tea in the hotel. Scones, clotted cream, and tea.

Even at our advanced age, we lowered the average age of the dozen or so folks in the room by a bit. It is clearly not something young people do. But, it was a pleasant way to rest a bit, and have a snack.
