Escape to the Country

Our time in London ended, none too soon for us. We like the city, but for some reason London did not excite us as much as other places we have been. At any rate, we checked out of the hotel, taxied to Heathrow, waited 90 minutes in a line at Hertz (arrrgghhhh), and finally took off for the north. After a couple of missed turns coming out of Heathrow, we headed north on the motorway. I'm glad I bought the European maps for my GPS; it worked great to get us to our destination.

We are spending 3 days in in the Lake District of England, specifically Windermere. It is a picturesque village. All we did after we got here was wander around the village and ate at one of the local pubs. I had a wonderful steak and ale pie. Caroline had a jacket potato with cheese (what we would call a baked potato).

Our B&B, the Briardene, is very nice (outside pictured below--the one with the Green sign). We plan to have a nice relaxing couple of days while we are here.
