Louvre, Notre Dame, and Gospel Choir

We spent the day seeing some of the sites that are must sees in Paris. After a pleasant breakfast overlooking the back side of the Madeleine church, we wandered down to the Place de Concorde, through the Tuileries to the Louvre. It was a pleasant Saturday afternoon and there were lots of tourists and locals in the Tuileries.

The Louvre was a popular spot and we chose not to go in. It is still an impressive building and the I.M. Pei entrance never fails to surprise and amaze. Some people like it, some don't like, but few are indifferent about it.

From there, we walked along the Seine a bit enjoying the beauty of the

city for a different perspective.

We crossed over to the Ile de Cite and got to Notre Dame, perhaps the most iconic of all the old churches in Paris and even Europe. It is a marvelous structure, and attracts huge crowds of tourists.

Even with the hundreds of tourists inside the building wandering around, we could not help but feel the presence of God in this place which has been used for worship for many hundreds of years. It is nearly impossible to get a good picture, but it gives you an idea.

We started the evening with a gospel choir concert in Église Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre, the oldest church in Paris from the 12th century.

The church was quite different that Notre Dame, and the music of the choir was what you hear in an American black church. The choir was amazing and the concert from them, and for us, was more worship than performance.

We finished the day with a pizza and salad in the Latin Quarter which was hopping at 11:30 PM.

A great day!
