One last flight

We arrived in Bangkok about noon and had a five hour layover waiting for our flight to Chiang Mai. After we got our boarding passes to Chiang Mai and cleared immigration control, we found a place to hang out. I was trying to stay awake and went for a couple of walks. When I got to the food court, I felt pretty much at home. As you can see from the pictures below, there was a Burger King, a pizza place, a MacDonalds, and a Popeyes. There was a also a Dunkin Donuts and I took the picture from an Irish pub.

And, like major international hubs everywhere, there were people of all different nationalities speaking lots of different languages. Thailand is clearly a place where people come to enjoy the sun and the water.

To underscore off the international flavor of the airport, I bought a map of the Chiang Mai region AND a copy of Rob Bell's latest book, Love Wins.

Our flight to Chiang Mai was an uneventful 75 minutes. The people on the left side of the aircraft got to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

I was in the middle seat and had to take this leaning over my seat mate Tom.

We collected all 20+ pieces of our luggage, cleared customs, loaded it all into 3 vehicles and drove about 30 minutes to our lodge. It is aptly named. The Bamboo Lodge is constructed out of bamboo for the most part.

On the left is the slanted roof of my abode.

This is the inside looking at the entrance. You can see that is small, but quite comfortable. I'll include some more pictures of it in another post.

We are definitely in a tropical climate with lots of  rain.

This was taken in the early morning light from the entrance to my lodge.

I'm off to see what breakfast holds.
