Paris, Friday

We started our day by heading for an area of Paris that we had not been to before, the Canal St. Martin. I guess this was just our canal vacation. It was a pretty part of the city, but there is probably a reason we had not been there because it was not all that interesting. It was a pleasant walk along the canal, and of course, there were a few shops that had to be explored by the gals. The canal appeared to be in working order, but we only saw one small boat on it and it was moored to the side.

We saw some ducks having a bit of a fight. It looked like a couple of males fighting, probably over a female.

At the end of the canal walk, a McDonald's was spotted and the gals wanted a drink, so we stopped in there. It was as crowded as US McDonald's, and the little ones were enjoying their Happy Meals. She was drinking her coke through Sponge Bob straw.

From there we took the metro to an area of the city where there are music stores. Jon wanted to find some French reeds for his bassoon. Alas, we found music stores, but no reeds. The French metro is very extensive, and simple to use. A ticket allows you to do one ride anywhere on the system including change of train. So, you can ride all day if you choose. I've read that you are never more than 400 meters from a metro stop, and from our experience, it is usually much closer.

A typical stop.

The inside of a typical metro car.

Jon is not an easy person

to take pictures of. He seems to think that he is not photogenic.

So, I get pictures like the

ones on the left. But, in fact, he takes quite nice pictures whenI catch him off guard as you can see from the

fourth picture. Actually, the fourth picture is him being silly and Jeanne laughing at him. He was doing his, "I would like to buy a hamburger" imitation. And he does take good pictures as you can see from the last picture.
