This post will be of interest mostly to the Eklund family.
Wednesday was a very slow day for us as we needed to allow Caroline a day of recover from her cold. It was good for both of us to catch up on sleep. And, given that it was rainy much of the day it was a good day to “chill out.”
On Thursday we drove from Norrköping to Sexdrega to visit Lars and Inga (and other relatives). Over the years, we have had many wonderful visits there and this time was no exception. When we arrived, we had the mandatory fika (coffee and a pastry).
We knew that Ulla F. had sung in choirs and had travelled with her choir singing classical music. But, we had never heard her sing. We had heard Lars play the organ, but I don’t remember hearing him play the piano in his living room. We got to hear both of those as Inga sang a couple of songs accompanied by Lars. Even at age 80+, she has a great voice and Lars is an accomplished pianist.
Later more of the family arrived and we had a late lunch. From left: Lars, Arne, Christer, and Ulla E. The menu was a pork dish in a tasty sauce, new potatoes (surprise), and salad followed by a homemade rhubarb crisp with vanilla sauce. It was marvelous. I wished my Swedish was better since Arne, Ulla E. and Rut speak limited English and I certainly speak limited Swedish.
And, since we are in Sweden, the afternoon finished with coffee in the living room.
In the picture below, from left: Arne Ek, Ulla Forsell, Christer Ek, Ulla Ek, Rut Ek, Margareta Ek, Caroline, and Chuck. Seated are Lars and Inga Rydh (our hosts).
We drove back to Norrköping, this time with Rut and Ulla F. with us. The drive brought back memories of riding Vätternrundan on my bicycle with Lukas three years ago. When we arrived, we were treated to late supper prepared by Janne and Anna. It was a long, but good day.
