Bergen

WaterFront

We spent two rainy, misty days in Bergen. The weather combined with our general level of tiredness led to a couple of slow and restful days. We did go out to eat with some friends at a very nice restaurant in Bergen. Good food with good people.

On the right is a picture from our ship of the waterfront. You can see the clouds and fog hiding the mountain. This was about the best it got the entire time we were there. It was gloomy. On one of our walks I saw a Helley Hansen store (Norwegian clothes and outdoor gear). One of the tag lines on their sore window was “We know rain.” Somebody said it rained 200+ days a year in Bergen. I haven’t tried to verify that so somebody check my facts.

Here are some pictures from Bergen.

Street Alley

The waterfront was older buildings with funky angles. At spots there were narrow passage ways (old streets I would imagine) leading back into bigger areas with shops and restaurants. There were 3 cruise ships in town the first day so there were lots of tourists wandering around. The town was very quaint.

Girl OldHouse

Little kids seem the same all over the world.                    Old house in one of the narrow passage ways

Hotdog Cod

The first market was full of king crab, enormous Norwegian lobsters, salmon, cod, mussels, and other fish. Chuck had to have a reindeer hotdog. It tasted pretty much like any other hotdog except this one had lingonberries on it—that was a first for me. For our “foodie” friends, on the right is a picture of lutefisk before it is reconstituted in lye. Those are dried cod fish.
