Sunday in Rome

RoofTopView

Our morning started with breakfast on the top floor of the hotel. The view was very nice as you can see. The food was good as well.

Our hotel is very close to the US Embassy here in Rome. In addition, the major hotels are housing many of the delegations. So, there were police everywhere with AR-15s or similar. And around every hotel there were a dozen or so men that I think were the drivers for the limos and the vans. Several times we heard or saw police caravans with black SUVs in the middle. Some dignitary going somewhere.

We took a walk through a park across the street called Villa Borghese. The park is 3.5 mile in circumference and is the largest park in Rome. It is a very popular place for families, dog walkers, and bikers. Besides all the open space, there is museum, a zoo, and a palace in the park. It was nice to wander the park and see what a typical Italian family does on a pleasant Sunday.

We had our first gelato of the vacation at the park. We are sure there are many more gelato’s to come.

Then it was nap time for about 30 minutes. We had a late lunch at a wonderful Italian restaurant.

After lunch we walked around the local area. There was an exhibit of modern art on the street. The white “house” in the picture above is part of the exhibit. Here are some other examples:

Even though we were tired and jet lagged, we had a good day.
