Norrköping

We had a fun day recovering from the flight and getting over the worst of jet lag.

DC3

We went to the Swedish Air Force Museum in Linköping where we spent most of our time in two exhibits. The first was about a DC3 signals intelligence plan that the Russians shot down over the Baltic in the 1950s. The place has recently been salvaged from the Baltic and is on display along with the history of its disappearance and recovery. It was very interesting to learn about it. Sweden is very close to Russia and there was significant fear of a Russian military action against Sweden during the cold war. It was hard to take pictures of the plane because it was so dark. It ha been recovered largely intact and the remains of some of the 8 crew members were found.

The second exhibit was about the cold war time in Sweden though the decades. For each decade that had an exhibit of what a typical Swedish home would have looked like. Around that exhibit was what the people were being told about preparation and security.  Again, it was very interesting.

The day finished with a dinner at Eva’s apartment. We had a very nice cold buffett and we enjoyed a wonderful evening together. From left to right in the picture: Anna; Eva, Anna'sd sister an our hostess for the night; Alfred, Eva’s son; Alexandra, Alfred’s girl friend, Janne, Anna’s husband; Caroline; Olle, Eva and Anna’s father, and Chuck.
