We spent an extra day in Florence after the tour where we chose to relax and enjoy our hotel.
We did go out and wander the city and saw some parts that were new to us. Here are some pictures of our day.
The Florence Cathedral. It is impossible to get a picture of it in total. The baptistry is in the foreground; the main church is behind that; the bell tower is on the right. It is the third largest church in the world (behind St. Peters in Rome and St. Pauls in London.)
Another church on a very nice square. There is no lack of churches in Florence.
Men’s (yes, men’s) fashion.
We wandered through a large market. The shops were mostly leather (purses, wallets, etc), silk scarves, and few t-shirt and souvenir shops. We wonder how all the leather sellers could survive.
July 14 is Bastille Day and the building across from our hotel was hosting a Bastille day celebration. A DJ was playing songs in French some of which we recognized. The one in the short video clip above we did recognize. It was sung in French. Caroline is adding the English voice.
Gelato was consumed often.
Our vacation (before our travel home) ended with a beautiful sunset over the Arno.
