Glacier Bay 2

The highlight of the cruise was getting to see the Margerie glacier up close. The ship got to the end of the Tarr Inlet and did a very slow 180° degree over the space of an hour. Her are some pictures of the glacier.

You can see the glacier in the middle of the picture. Mount Fairweather in the far background.

The ice up close. You can see a blue tint in the ice.

Caving

The glacier moves about 6 feet a day and as it does, ice breaks off into the bay (calves).
I was lucky enough to get this picture of the ice falling off the glacier.

The scenery was stunning for the several hours we were there. Pictures don’t really do it justice. We were so fortunate to have such a good day. One of the crew told me that last week when they were here it was so foggy they couldn’t see anything. That would have been such a bummer.
