Aug 25. Hubbard Glacier

Thursday once again was cloudy, foggy, and rainy. We sailed into the mouth of the Hubbard Glacier where the ship loitered for an hour or so slowly turning around so the glacier was visible from all vantage points. This was the biggest of the glaciers that we saw (at least the widest). It was also the noises. Periodically you could hear the ice cracking making a sound not unlike distant thunder. It wasn’t because ice was coming off the glacier—we didn’t see any of that happening. It must have been cracking and sliding away from the edge. In spite of the lousy, we got some good pictures. The movie below is a pan of the entire glacier zoomed in.

A clear day would have bee wonderful, but it is still an incredible view. Here are some other pictures.

There was lots of floating ice near the glacier.
